Greenland has the distinction of being the largest island in the world and about 80% of it is covered in ice. Ilulissat is Greenland’s most famous town, which is located at Ilulissat Ice Fjord, the first place in Greenland to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I visited Ilulissat and other cities on the west coast of Greenland on a small ship expedition cruise with Adventure Canada. I contributed a piece about Ilulissat (which includes an interview with the first female prime minister of Greenland) to The Joy of Quiet Places, an upcoming book by Lonely Planet.
